Non-Scholarship Summer Training Courses

During the summer the Air Cadet Program offers cadets the opportunity to attend summer courses. Transportation, housing, food and training is provided by the Department of National Defense (DND) at no charge, plus a training bonus of $10 per day to a maximum of $60 per week and $360 per course is earned. This is to ensure cadets have to money to purchase incidentals, snacks and any other items that may be required while on course. 

There are a number of different courses ranging in duration from two to six weeks for which Cadets can apply if qualified. Successful graduates of a senior courses can apply for employment at select summer camps. There are plenty of choices so Cadets should discuss their possibilities with an officer to help ensure a successful career path.



The application process usually starts in late December / Early January so be on the lookout for more information and sign up sheets.


General Training
General Training
The aim of this training course is to introduce Air cadets to the Cadet Training Centre environment and exposes them to CTC program areas of interest.
2 weeks - Albert Head
Level 1 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Drill and Leadership
Basic Drill and Ceremonial Course
The aim of this training course is to prepare cadets to perform the role of a peer leader while building upon the leadership and drill and ceremonial knowledge and skills learned through the sqn program.
3 weeks - Vernon
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course
The aim of this training course is to develop a specialist cadet with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for drill and ceremonial activities.
6 weeks - Vernon
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Aviation
Basic Aviation and Aerospace Technology Course
The aim of this training course is to further develop in cadets the fundamentals of aerospace, airport operations and aircraft manufacturing and maintenance and inspire them to pursue specialist training in some or all of the subject areas.
3 Weeks - Albert Head
Level 2 Successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Basic Aviation Course
The aim of this training course is to further develop in cadets the fundamentals of aviation and inspire them to pursue specialist training in this subject area.
3 Weeks - Cold Lake, Alberta
Level 2 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Advanced Aviation Course
The aim of this training course is to develop a specialist cadet with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aviation activities within the Air cadet program
3 Weeks - Comox
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Survival Training
Basic Survival Course
The aim of this training course is to further develop in cadets basic survival skills and inspire them to pursue specialist training in this subject area. This will allow them to participate as a skilled junior cadet in survival training as part of the sqn program.
3 Weeks - Albert Head
Level 2 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Survival Instructor Course
The aim of this training course is to develop a specialist cadet with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aircrew survival activities within the Air cadet program.

6 Weeks - Cold Lake, Alberta
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Fitness and Sports
Basic Fitness and Sports Course
The aim of this training course is to prepare cadets to perform the duties of a Basic Fitness and Sports Assistant while continuing to develop personal fitness and healthy living skills.
3 Weeks - Vernon
Level 2 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Fitness and Sports Instructor Course
The aim of this training course is to develop a specialist cadet with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to perform the role of a fitness and sports instructor and a team leader for fitness and sports activities conducted at the squadron, during regionally directed activities and/or as a staff cadet at a CSTC.
6 weeks - Albert Head
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Marksmanship
Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course
The aim of this training course is to develop individual air rifle marksmanship and summer biathlon specialty skills while reinforcing and further developing the leadership and instructional techniques skills of each cadet. It also prepares the cadets to support these two specialty activities at the sqn, during regionally directed activities and/or as a staff cadet at a CSTC.
3 Weeks - Vernon, BC
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.

Music
Military Band - Basic Musician
The aim of this training course is to introduce the cadets to all aspects of the music program and to prepare them to support their sqn bands and related music activities.
3 Weeks - HMCS Quadra - Comox
Level 2 successfully completed by the end of the current training year. -
No prior music experience is necessary.

Military Band - Intermediate Musician
The aim of this training course is to raise cadets' musical skills to the next proficiency level. in addition to an on the job training phase, cadets will learn music theory, participate in sectional and ensemble training, band drill ,sight reading and discuss music history based on their current music level.
6 Weeks - Albert Head - Metchosin
Level 3 Successfully completed by the end of the current training year.
Musician level 2 is required.

Military Band - Advanced Musician
The aim of this training course is to raise cadets' musical skills to the next proficiency level. in addition to an on the job training phase, cadets will learn music theory, participate in sectional and ensemble training, band drill ,sight reading and discuss music history based on their current music level. It will also develop their skills as a music instructor.
6 Weeks - Albert Head
Level 4 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.
Musician level 3 is required.

Pipe Band - Basic Musician
This course is identical to the Military Band - Basic musician course except it is designed for members of a Squadron pipe and Drum band.
3 Weeks - Vernon - BC
Level 2 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.
No Music experience is necessary.

Pipe Band - Intermediate musician
This course is identical to the Military Band - Intermediate musician course except it is designed for members of a Squadron pipe and Drum band.
6 weeks - Vernon - BC
Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.
Music level 2 is required.

Pipe Band - Advanced Musician
This course is identical to the Military Band - Advanced musician course except it is designed for members of a Squadron pipe and Drum band.
6 Weeks - Vernon - BC
Level 4 successfully completed by the end of the current training year.
Music level 3 is required.
